There’s a fine line between “effortless streetwear” and “borrowed my dad’s shirt”. An oversized tee should look relaxed and intentional: wide through the body, dropped at the shoulder, and still in proportion with you.
This oversize shirt size guide shows you how to measure, when to size up (and when not to), and the quick mirror checks that tell you whether you’ve gone too far.
Oversized vs just too big
A true oversized tee is cut to be roomy. It has a wider body, a dropped shoulder seam and sleeves designed to sit around the elbow. A regular tee two sizes up is just bigger: the shoulder seam slides down your arm, the neckline gapes and the length swallows you.
That’s why it’s worth buying a tee designed for an oversized fit, like a drop-shoulder cut, rather than simply buying XXL. More on that in Drop Shoulder T-Shirt Explained.
The four measurements that matter
When you read a size chart, focus on:
- Chest width (pit to pit). Measured flat, armpit to armpit. Double it for the full circumference. This decides how roomy the tee feels.
- Body length. From the highest point of the shoulder to the hem. This decides whether it looks cropped, balanced or like a dress.
- Shoulder. On drop-shoulder tees this is wider than your actual shoulders. That’s by design.
- Sleeve length. On oversized tees, sleeves usually land between mid-bicep and just above the elbow.
How to measure a tee you already love
The most reliable size guide is a tee already in your wardrobe:
- Lay your favourite tee flat on a table and smooth it out.
- Measure pit to pit straight across.
- Measure length from the top of the shoulder (beside the collar) down to the hem.
- Compare those numbers with the brand’s size chart and choose the closest match.
This works better than guessing from “I’m usually an M”, because sizing varies between brands.
Should you size up?
- If the tee is already cut oversized (drop shoulder, boxy body): stay with your true size for the intended look. Size up once only if you want an extra-baggy street look.
- If the tee is a regular or relaxed fit: size up one for a looser feel, but expect longer sleeves and length.
- If you’re between sizes: go up for a relaxed drape, or down for a neater, more structured look.
Fit checks: signs you’ve gone too oversized
Stand in front of a mirror and check:
- Hem past mid-thigh? Too long, unless that’s the look you’re going for. Aim for the hem to land around the hip to the top of the thigh.
- Sleeves past the elbow? You’ve probably sized up too far.
- Neckline sagging or showing your collarbone? The tee is too big overall.
- Fabric pooling at your sides? Too wide for your frame.
- Shoulder seam near your elbow? Even on a drop shoulder, it should sit just off the shoulder, around the upper arm.
If you tick two or more, go down a size.
Sizing for different body types
- Shorter frames: pick your true size so the length doesn’t overwhelm you. A front tuck helps.
- Taller frames: check body length most carefully. Size up if regular lengths feel cropped.
- Broader or bigger builds: look for brands that go up to 2XL–3XL in a properly proportioned cut, not just a wider regular tee.
- Women wearing unisex tees: many go one size down from their usual men’s equivalent for a relaxed fit, or stay true to size for a boyfriend fit.

Oversized vs regular: what the numbers show
Compare the same size across both charts. A Mood Tee in M is 53cm across the chest with a 50cm shoulder. A Logo Tee in M is 51cm across the chest with a 47cm shoulder. The lengths are almost the same (68cm vs 67cm). The extra width and wider shoulder are what make the Mood Tee oversized: the shoulder seam drops off your natural shoulder and the body hangs boxy. The Logo Tee sits closer to the body with the seam near your shoulder line, so it looks neater and more classic.
That’s why you buy your true size in the Mood Tee for the intended oversized look. In the Logo Tee, size up one if you want more room. For example, a Logo Tee in XL (54cm chest) is close in width to a Mood Tee in L (56cm).
How to read the charts: if your favourite oversized tee measures about 53cm pit to pit and 68cm long, the Mood Tee in M is your match. Between sizes? Go up for more drape, or down for a neater look.
- Alpacco Graphic Tee / MT Mood Tee: 260gsm, 100% combed cotton, drop shoulder, unisex, S–3XL. It’s already cut relaxed, so most people choose their true size. Size up once for an extra-baggy street look.
- Alpacco Logo Tee: 230gsm combed cotton, relaxed regular fit, unisex. It isn’t an oversized cut, so size up one if you want more room.
Compare the chart with your favourite tee before you order. Combed cotton holds its shape well, and following the care label helps it stay that way: machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, no bleach, tumble dry low or air dry, and don’t iron over prints.
Real-buyer sizing references
Buyers on our oversized tee listing on Shopee often share their height, weight and size. These are what worked for them, not a guarantee for you:
- c*****_: 160cm / 55kg, size S. Said the fit was “fit but loose a little bit”.
- 0*****9: 164cm / 70kg, size XL. Sized up on purpose for a baggy look, so it ran large by design (translated from Malay).
- yw_000: 178cm, size XL. True to size with an ideal length, and suggests going larger if you’re over 6 feet and want an “over-oversized” fit.
- a*****1: 185cm / 103kg, size 3XL. True to size (translated from Malay).
- ch.hanif: size L. Recommends sizing up one if you want it baggy (translated from Malay).
- nandodavid123: 185cm / 111kg, bust 110, size 2XL. Rated the fit as too large. This was their “Second time purchasing”.
- azim2810: bought Sport Grey in 3XL and S to match with their son: “Cant wait to wear it with my son, very fast shipping & great packaging”.
At the time of writing, 109 reviews on that listing carry Shopee’s “True to size” tag.

FAQ
Should I size up for an oversized t-shirt?
Not if the tee is already cut oversized with a drop shoulder. Your true size gives the intended look. Size up once only for an extra-baggy style.
How long should an oversized tee be?
Usually from the hip to the top of the thigh. Any longer and it starts to look like a dress.
Where should the shoulder seam sit on an oversized tee?
Just off your natural shoulder, on the upper arm. If it reaches your elbow, the tee is too big.
Are Alpacco tees unisex?
Yes. Both the Graphic Tee and the Logo Tee are unisex. The Graphic Tee comes in sizes S–3XL.
Will the tee shrink after washing?
Follow the care label (cold wash, gentle cycle, tumble dry low or air dry) to keep shrinkage to a minimum and the fit consistent.
